Tonight we gave the people still needing their Totin' Chip a chance to show what they have learned. We then had a brief meeting to discuss fundraisers and which we would like to participate in. We also discussed a possible Sea Scouts on Ski's trip either February 13 or March 6. Many have gave interest in the March 6 date. We still have yet to discuss this in further detail. Eric (Boatswain) talked to everyone about the Safe Swim Defense. Everybody then attempted to tie the knots required. Mr. Shugart gave us a lesson on parts of the line. Mr. Knapp then gave everybody their Totin' Chip's. We were then dismissed from the meeting until next week February 1.

Tonight we discussed the Scouts on Skis trip coming up on March 6 2011. We plan to leave at approximately 6:45, so please plan to be here no later than 6:30. Winterplace is located off of I-77, exit 28 Beckley, WV. It is approximately an hour and forty-five minute drive. The fee includes all day equipment rental, all day lift ticket, and a meal voucher. Please note that the voucher does not come with tubing. We then discussed going to Radford University Planetarium on February 22 2011 for an educational class. The calendar has had some changes made to it, so please check the calendar often. Mr.Shugart then educated us about the Bowline. Mr.Knapp had a fun little getting to know each other game for the last 10-15 minutes. Eric then led us in our closing and we were dismissed. I encourage everyone to check the calendar often so that you make take note of any changes. Until our next meeting, may god be with you all.

In tonight's meeting we started with the opening; reciting the Sea Scout Promise. Afterward we discussed the Scouts On Skis trip this Sunday March 6th, 2011. Everyone who is going should try to be on the road by at least 6:45 am. Eric then gave us information on classes we may take on different things. He also had information on Radio info. for a future lesson. The calendar had some changes made to it, so please take a moment to take a look at that. Please send out your availability, time frame, and possible problems that might occur with you not being able to show up in an email to Mr. Knapp or Eric. Mr. White brought up that we need to clean the inside of the boat with Clorox to disinfect anything on the inside of our Sail Boat. We are possibly planning a canoe trip on May 7th, 2011. We then had Austin explain and gather interest in different fundraisers that we may do. Some of these include: working at Apple-bee's as Servers for a Saturday breakfast, possibly selling Interstate Batteries with an 80% profit, and Mr. Knapp brought up something about ColdStone Creamery. That pretty much sums it up for this week's meeting. I hope everyone can make it next week.

After a brief opening Mr. Shugart led us in a five minute knot lesson. We then made a change to the calendar, saying that on March 26th, 2011 we will be doing ship repair from 4pm-7:30pm. Some other changes include going bowling on the 29th of March, 2011 and another Ship Repair on the 22nd of March, 2011. Eric then presented Mr. Knapp with a generous donation of $1,000.00 from the Kinsolving Foundation. We then went over and set up a foundation for a code and bylaws. We have respectively declined a Fundraiser at Apple Bee's for the fact of lack of crew and inability to sell tickets. We then discussed possibly advertising Sea Scouts at a boating class and providing small refreshments. This would also be a possibility at a vessel check as early as May to September. Other ways to recruit new members would to advertise to youth groups and possibly Camp Cougar. The Friends Of Claytor Lake Organization has asked if we would like to participate in a clean up project to support our chartering organization. After a brief closing we were dismissed.

At tonight's meeting we discussed having one quarterdeck meeting and at least one activity during the fall and winter. We have decided this because we have several members who will be less active due to participating in Boy Scouts. We then discussed some possible dates for all-day sailing trips. The t-shirts will be ordered in somewhat of a bulk to decrease price and have extra to sell. We have also decided to change our cancellation policy. For meetings that are during the evening time cancellations will be made within 6 to 8 hours. For meetings that are all-day events everyone will be notified 12 hours in advance. If a meeting is scheduled to start at 11 am for instance then the phone circle will be initiated at 8 am per se. We then discussed that instead of emailing each other that a phone circle would be more efficient. For example the boatswain will call one of his mates who will call the other mate. The second mate will then contact the yeoman who contacts the purser who shall then call the boatswain to make sure the message was delivered. A similar calling circle will be used by the adults as well. The calendar had some additions all the way through the month of August. We then closed with the sea scout promise. Mr. Richty also gave information about the Sailing 101 class at Claytor Lake this Saturday. The event is free of charge and life jackets are also provided.

At tonight's meeting we talked about the different types of boats and knots. The yeoman, boatswain, and treasurer received their rank patches. It was really simple. We talked a lot about knots and different objects on a boat like the rudder, the helm, the bow , etc. The next meeting is on the 6th of December.

Caleb, Yeoman
